First timer in the fur parent game? We’ve got you covered. One of the most basic questions when taking care of a new pup is when to switch from puppy food to adult food. It’s kind of tricky because on one hand, they will always always be babies to you (and we totally get that!) but on the other hand, your pup will need a different set of nutrients as it gets older.
The rule of thumb is that usually by the 6th month mark, you should consider slowly switching their diet from puppy to adult food. This is how we ratioed changinging puppy to adult food in roughly a month:
Week 1: ¾ puppy food and ¼ adult food
Week 2: ½ puppy food and ½ adult food
Week 3: ¼ puppy food and ¾ adult food
Week 4: All adult food
We’re really glad that Alpo for both puppies and adults are available here on Loopy to help you ease your way through your new pup’s first year!
